One Kontu – all services
Kontu was formed when six Finnish property management companies merged, combining their expertise into one. In June 2024, ISTO, JIP, and M3 joined forces, following the earlier integration of MTR, Walttari, and STIO. Together, we serve housing companies across more than 50 locations, backed by decades of experience.

What does the board of a housing company do, and who can serve on it?
The board is responsible for managing the company and organizing operations appropriately, making decisions within the budget approved by the annual meeting. The board can’t decide on significant matters affecting living conditions or costs—these decisions are made at the annual meeting. However, in urgent cases like water damage or fire, the board can act to prevent further damage without waiting.
Typically, 3-5 members are elected to the board. Any adult, not bankrupt or legally incapacitated, can serve, including tenants and investor-owners. No special property expertise is needed—common sense, diligence, and a willingness to contribute to the community are enough.
